Athletes tri their best

SUPPORTERS of the North East’s first charity triathlon have been given a pat on the back.
The Chronicle’s inaugural Sunshine Tri saw hundreds of competitors put through their paces with a 400m swim, 20k cycle and 5k run. Manager Jo Harris, of the Sunshine Fund, today congratulated the top three athletes in the men’s and women’s competitions.
Haydn Maughan, Colin Robson, Ian Walton, Lizzie Wraith, Bella Pearce and Lesley Johnson came top in their races. The first team home was the Rutherfords.
And organiser Jo thanked sponsors the Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative, and partners North East Triathlon , One Life Triathlon Club in Hexham, Ponteland Leisure Centre, Harpers Fitness, Northumberland Council and the Outdoor Fitness Company.
Jo said: “It was aimed at first time triathletes and we had an impressive turn out with more than 80 of the competitors being new to the sport.
