Workers team up for Sunshine Fund Challenge

03 June 2008

Law firm setting pace for charity

DETERMINED solicitors will swap law books for running shoes to take part in this year’s Sunshine Run . Around 15 members of staff from Ward Hadaway law firm, based on Newcastle’s Quayside, are gearing up for the 5km route.

And for Angela Redhead the challenge will be two-fold – she quit smoking yesterday in a bid to kick-start a new healthy lifestyle. The 29-year-old executive assistant from Kenton said: “I’ve smoked for about 10 years, so it’s quite a long time. “I just want to get fit and save a bit of money. I can’t run very far and quickly get out of breath. “The will be the second time I’ve done the run . Last year I had to jump into my boss’s shoes at the last minute because he couldn’t do it. “But I hope to better my time this year and finish in under half an hour.”

Angela has already raised £400 through her justgiving website, a remarkable total when most runners raise an average of £50.

She hopes to raise £600 in total and is well on the way to helping the Sunshine Fund reach its £20,000 target.
Angela added: “It’s a really good cause and it will help me get fit and stop smoking as well.”

The Sunshine Fund provides equipment that makes a big improvement to lives of disabled and seriously ill children in the North East, for which money is not easily available from other sources.

The fund is able to provide grants through the fundraising efforts of Chronicle readers and the support of many local businesses.
Jo Harris, Sunshine Fund manager, said: “We are always delighted to have big teams enter and are pleased Ward Hadaway will be with us. It will be a great day and we are really looking forward to it.”
