In the swing of charity

09 May 2008

THERE will be no shouting and swearing from Gordon Ramsay.

But there will be smiles all round as staff at restaurant The Ivy hold a Hell’s Kitchen-style event to raise money for the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund and celebrate its relaunch.

Customers will have the chance to give their verdict on the food by paying for their meals or leaving without picking up the bill. But manager of the Ryton venue Sue Newman has decided to give away the food and ask guests for a donation of at least £5 to the Sunshine Fund instead.

The charity provides equipment to help improve the lives of children living with disabilities or serious illness. Sue was inspired to support the Sunshine Fund by colleague Anne Lynas , whose six-year-old son Adam has been diagnosed as autistic. Unaware of the dangers of the outside world, active Adam, of Blaydon , has become a prisoner in his own home. But thanks to play equipment from the Sunshine Fund, he’s enjoying a new lease of life in the garden.
