Final rides at attraction will benefit our charity

EUROPE’S largest indoor theme park is set to hold its Last Ticket to Ride party in aid of the Sunshine Fund. MetroLand , which has been part of the MetroCentre for more than 20 years, is closing its doors to the public for the final time on April 20.

The much-loved attraction is to hold a charity bash on its last evening of business, in which visitors will be allowed to take to the rides for the last time.
Owner Arlington Leisure plans to sell 500 tickets at £10 each for entrance to the party, taking place between 5pm and 8pm on April 20, with all the proceeds going to the Sunshine Fund.

Andrew Bailey, MetroLand manager, said: “The families in the North East have supported us incredibly over the years, and for that we are continually grateful.
“ Metroland has helped many charities in the region, however we all felt that ncjMedia titles the Evening Chronicle, Sunday Sun and Journal, have been extremely supportive of us. “This is why the donation of the Last Ticket to Ride admission price is being given to the Sunshine Fund charity.
“We want to make MetroLand go out with a big bang and would like to invite the region that has supported us so loyally over the years to join us.”

The venue is closing to accommodate Capital Shopping Centre’s restructuring plans for the site.

Normal trade will continue at the theme park until 5pm, after which only holders of a Last Ticket to Ride pass will be allowed in to enjoy a piece of MetroCentre history.

McDonald’s is also offering ticket holders a free meal voucher, to show its support for the Sunshine Fund.

Jo Harris, Sunshine Fund manager, said: “We are so pleased that Arlington Leisure has chosen the Sunshine Fund to give what will be their last donation to a charity to help towards needy children in the region. “ MetroLand has supported our charity for many years and the fact it will continue to do so until its final ride, is a testament to the dedication it has given to the enjoyment of children of all ages throughout their years at the MetroCentre.”
