Brightening up winter season

Festive celebrations will raise vital charity cash
Plans for the Sunshine Fund’s Christmas celebrations are already gathering pace. Tickets are now on sale for the Fun and Sport Club’s annual late Christmas party held in January 2008.
Organiser David Haggath, who has been involved with the dinners since 1998, says he can’t wait to get in the festive mood, and that a good time is guaranteed for all. Mr Haggath said: “This started a number of years ago when I used to organise them with the famous Spike Rawlings. “It was something to do in an otherwise dull and dreary January and it spiralled from there. “We always try to raise money for a local charity and we’ve done it for the Sunshine Fund a couple of times now. “It is normally a sell-out and we’re hoping to raise more than our last total of around £6,500.”
The dinner is in the Assembly Rooms, Fenkle Street, Newcastle, on January 30, with tickets costing £33.
Mr Haggath said: “There will be live comedy from the nationally acclaimed comedian Gary Marshall, top class impressionist Leslie Gibson, a two-course meal, coffee and an auction. “We will also have some celebrity visitors including Newcastle United legend Tony Green.”
The Journal Tyne Theatre is also getting into the Christmas spirit for the Sunshine Fund. December 2 will see the fantastic Silver Bells Christmas Show coming to Newcastle. Leah Bell , Johnny De Little and the Silver Belles Dancers will boogie the night away with all proceeds going towards the Chronicle’s charity for disabled or seriously ill children.
Sunshine Fund manager Jo Harris said: “This Christmas promises to be a memorable one with tickets already on sale for two fantastic shows.
“We are very grateful to David Haggath and Leah Bell for their help. The money raised will go a long way to help local disabled children.”
The Sunshine Fund provides equipment which makes a big improvement to the lives of children who are either living with a disability or are seriously ill.
It is equipment that is usually not available from normal sources, such as the NHS, because of funding restrictions.
