Chef serves up charity cheque
11 September 2007
Competition raises cash for Chronicle’s fund
CROWNED Chef of the Year Dave Kennedy is all smiles handing over a cheque for £2,400 to the Sunshine Fund. After a day of gruelling challenges culminating in the preparation of a full three-course meal in two hours, Mr Kennedy managed to beat off competition from across the region and was given the title.
On the day and on the presentation evening, all funds raised through raffles and auctions that took place were collected for the Sunshine Fund. And last week, organiser Richard Simms, of North East Culinary Trade Association (Necta), together with Mr Kennedy, were on hand to donate the money to the charity.
Mr Simms said: “There were a couple of days in total and there were 16 chefs taking part in the Chef of the Year competition. “The chefs didn’t find out until the charity night, which was at St James’ Park, after the competition and that is where we raised the money for the Sunshine Fund through auctions and other competitions. “We are hoping to do the same next year as well, but we would really like to beat our total from this year. “We’re going to holding the competition, as well as a number of exhibitions, on May 21 and May 22 next year, with the charity dinner at the Marriott Gosforth Park on May 22. We would like as many people as possible to get involved.”
Anyone who would like more information on how to enter the Chef of the Year competition or find out what will be happening over the two days, can call Richard on (0191) 265 9363 or e-mail necta 4skills@hotmail.com
