David Marr, eight, from Heaton, who has impaired hearing and cerebral palsy; Michael Start, 12, of South Shields, who suffers from scoliosis, ADHD and learning difficulties; and Andrew Mitchell, four, of Ryton, who has cerebral palsy and finds it difficult to walk, got to enjoy Newcastle ’s friendly clash with Scottish side Celtic.
In October last year, David received a trike from the Sunshine Fund to help him strengthen his legs and play outside more often. Michael Start was given a buggy, and Andrew Mitchell was also given a trike.
Garry Sheriff, ITPS’s managing director, who provided the box, said: “As a business that continues to enjoy considerable success here in the North East, we consider it appropriate to share some of the rewards of this success with those less fortunate than ourselves.
“This year, we will be providing various levels of support to the Sunshine Fund .
“And later on in the season we will again donate the use of this box as a auction prize at either the Sunflower Ball in October or the Celebrity Question of Sport event in November.”
During the course of the game, the box was also visited by former Newcastle striker Malcolm Macdonald and Toon favourite John Beresford.
Jo Harris, manager of the Sunshine Fund , said: “We really appreciated ITPS’s contribution. Donations and gestures like this really make the Sunshine Fund.”
