Sunshine Run 2010 is launched
08 April 2010
HUNDREDS of runners are being invited to once again pound the quayside for the Chronicle’s charity. The ninth annual Sunshine Run is due to take place on Wednesday, July 7, and we are looking for as many people as possible to take part.
Every year individuals, families and groups from across the region run the 5k event.
From the starting line near the Pitcher and Piano and Millennium Bridge, competitors will be heading along the quayside path to Newcastle Business Park, before doubling back to cross the Millennium Bridge and across the finish in Baltic Square, on the Gateshead side.
Last year more than 400 people helped to make the family fun run a roaring success, raising thousands of pounds along the way.
Proceeds are raised via individual sponsorship and through the generosity of companies such as ITPS, the North East-based IT support, solutions and advice company. This year ITPS will continue to act as the event’s main sponsors for the third year running.
Donations go towards the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund, which helps improve the lives of disabled children in the region by providing essential equipment, learning aids and custom-built apparatus.
Double paralympic champion and Sunshine Fund VIP patron Stephen Miller will start the event.
Chronicle editor Paul Robertson said: “The atmosphere at the event is always fantastic and the weather has usually been kind.
“We are very grateful for the support from so many firms and individuals, in particular ITPS, who by sponsoring the run give us such a great start in raising funds for much-needed equipment to help children with disabilities.
“It would be fantastic if we could beat our £30,000 record this year.”
Entry fee for the run is £15, which includes a T-shirt, and competitors are asked to raise at least £50 in sponsorship. Or you can download an entry form from the website.
