A mother who fought a six-year compensation battle for her son is hoping to help other parents struggling to care for their disabled children with the launch of a new website.

Wendy Fisher, of Darras Hall, Ponteland in Northumberland, intends to share the expertise she has gained through looking after her son, Lewis, who has cerebral palsy, with other families.

The idea for her website — www.ableneeds.co.uk set up with a grant from North East Business Link and with sponsorship from her legal team, Pannone — came after she found herself advising other parents on the best disability aids for their children.

She said: “You become a mine of useful information. A lot of parents have said to me, ‘What did you do when you were going to modify the house? What kind of bathroom fittings would you recommend?

I enjoy talking to people and I’m eager to share the expertise I’ve gained.

“I wish there’d been something like this for me when Lewis was younger,” said Wendy.
