ICY PATHS FORCE RUN OFF

08 December 2008

FAMILIES were disappointed when black ice forced the postponement of a fun run yesterday.

This year’s Santa Run, in aid of the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund, was expected to raise thousands.

But organisers called it off because of the weather and are arranging a new date. Sunshine Fund manager Jo Harris said: “At 7.30am on the morning of the run the health and safety officer and event organisers decided that due to treacherous weather and icy paths it would not have been safe. We rang as many runners as we could and a message went out on Century Radio.

“Event organisers and volunteers stayed in Exhibition Park to pass the message on to anyone who turned up. Our main concern was the safety of our runners.’’
She urged everyone to keep their Santa suits, numbers and sponsor forms and money for the new date.
