Modern money

31 October 2008

THE star of Thoroughly Modern Millie presented a thoroughly fabulous cheque this week.

Newcastle Musical Theatre Company, whose production of the show kicks off at the Theatre Royal on Monday, has generously donated £1,500 to the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund.
Eleanor Chaganis, who plays the title role, presented the cheque.
Michael Avery, director of the company, said: “Last year’s production of Oliver! had lots of children involved.
“That gave us the idea to donate to a children’s charity this year, but we didn’t know who to choose.”
Then Mr Avery, 63, got an idea, from close to home. He saw an advert for the Sunshine Fund presented by Leah Bell, a performer with the company.
Mr Avery continued: “I just thought ‘That’s it!’ There’s a connection with us and it’s a local charity.”
