Ryan taps in to new skills
A delighted mum said her son’s schoolwork had come on in leaps and bounds after he received a computer from the Chronicle’s charity for sick and disabled children.
Ryan Eastham, aged five, from Consett, who has Asperger Syndrome, received a computer from the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund.
The youngster has problems with concentration but by capturing his attention through educational games the computer has enabled him to make great strides at school, especially in maths.
Ryan’s delighted mum Joanne, 35, said: “It has made such a difference to his life.
“He can be a little hyper at times and likes a routine. He is coming on great at school and absolutely loves the computer.”
Joanne also praised charities such as the Sunshine Fund which enable Ryan to have a computer that she and husband Robin, 33, would have been unable to provide.
Joanne added: “The Sunshine Fund is a great charity. It has really helped us and its amazing what they have been able to do.
“It is such a good charity for all the children in the North East and if it wasn’t for the Sunshine fund Ryan wouldn’t have the computer because we wouldn’t be able to afford it.”
Asperger Syndrome is a form of autism affecting people at the higher functioning end of the autistic spectrum.
